An Update from the LinkedIn Security Team

Members trust LinkedIn with their data and we work to protect that trust.

We want our members to know that a recent claim of a LinkedIn data breach is not accurate. Our investigation into this claim found that a third-party sales intelligence company that is not associated with LinkedIn was compromised and exposed a large set of data aggregated from a number of social networks, websites, and the company’s own customers. It also included a limited set of publicly available data about LinkedIn members, such as profile URL, industry, and number of connections. This was not a breach of LinkedIn.

Misusing LinkedIn member data violates our terms of service and the trust our members place in us. When anyone tries to take member data and use it for purposes LinkedIn and its members haven’t agreed to, we take aggressive action to stop them and hold them accountable.
