Celebrate Earth: Sustainability at LinkedIn

We believe that how we work is just as important as what we do in creating economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce. It’s important for us to keep sustainable business practices top-of-mind when we think about our corporate social responsibility, and we're committed to do our part to reduce the carbon footprint.

Our Sustainability Team is working toward achieving 100 percent renewable energy, building efficient workplaces and data centers, and operating sustainably for the benefit of our employees, members and the communities we serve. We still have work to do to, but we're making progress with the following:

  • Opening our first Net Zero Energy-designed building in Sunnyvale, which generates renewable energy onsite to power 100 percent of energy use through rooftop solar and higher efficiency lighting and ventilation systems.
  • Our Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices are upgrading now to 100 percent renewable energy to power workplace operations through Community Choice Energy contract options, bringing our global renewable energy use to more than 50 percent.
  • Building a clean energy data center in Oregon in 2016. We received Uptime Institute's highest score-to-date for Efficient IT, and was cited for innovative design to reduce carbon emissions and costs. The datacenter is powered almost entirely by clean renewable energy.
  • Encouraging employee commute programs — less than 55 percent of employees drive alone to work with the support of our transportation programs.

We recently launched GoGreen, an employment engagement program that promotes awareness around environmental issues such as cleaner commutes, less waste, and energy efficiency.
