LinkedIn Ireland surpasses 1,000 jobs milestone as it celebrates fifth anniversary
DUBLIN, December 4, 2015 – At an event to celebrate its fifth anniversary in Ireland, LinkedIn (NYSE: LNKD) today announced it now employs 900 people, an increase of 300 over the past twelve months, with more than 100 additional open positions at present. LinkedIn was joined at the event by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD.
LinkedIn’s 900 employees are engaged in sales and marketing, engineering, data insights and analytics, and include a variety of regional leadership roles. The open roles include sales managers, insight analysts, applied scientists, HR managers and finance managers.
LinkedIn also announced that the next phase of construction has commenced on its international headquarters in Dublin. This site is being developed on 17,507sq m and seven hundred construction jobs are involved over the course of the project, which is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2017.
Commenting during a visit to the site, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD said: “It is a fantastic endorsement for Ireland that one of the leading internet companies in the world has selected Dublin as the location for its international headquarters. In a short space of time, LinkedIn has become a major employer in Ireland and continues to grow. The calibre of people employed by LinkedIn reflects the quality of the Irish workforce and is another reason why Ireland is seen as a global centre for technology and internationalisation. The Government plans to keep the recovery going by keeping Ireland competitive for new investment and jobs."
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD, who is this morning hosting the Dublin jobs plan forum, added: “Ireland’s success in attracting and growing jobs in the world’s biggest ‘born on the internet’ companies brings huge knock-on benefits – including extra jobs in supply and service companies, as well as a huge gain for our reputation. Encouraging jobs growth in these companies is a key aim of the Action Plan for Jobs, and today’s announcement that LinkedIn, one of the world's biggest names in this area, is making a major investment in its operations here, and will soon employ 1000 people here, is a great boost. I wish Sharon and the team every success with its operations here, and look forward to continue working with them as they continue to invest and grow jobs here”
Martin Shanahan, CEO, IDA Ireland, said: “Since establishing its international headquarters in Dublin five years ago, LinkedIn has developed its business significantly, creating jobs in key areas such as data analysis and applied science. The decision by the company to develop and construct its international headquarters here is testament to Ireland’s reputation as a global leader in technology and big data.”
Sharon McCooey, Senior Director International Operations and Dublin Site Lead, LinkedIn, added: “As one of LinkedIn’s first employees in Ireland, it has been fantastic to be part of driving the evolution of the company. We have grown from a team of three to a workforce of 900 people in five short years and we continue to expand with the construction of our new international headquarters here in the city centre. Our location at the heart of Europe’s digital ecosystem means that we are ideally placed for the future.”
John Herlihy, LinkedIn EMEA Managing Director, said, “Ireland is a great place to do business and is a hugely important base for LinkedIn. Having recently joined the LinkedIn team, I’m looking forward to a bright future as we grow and expand our team in Dublin.”
