LinkedIn announces 4 million members in Australia
Sydney —March 14, 2013 — LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network on the internet today announced that its membership base in Australia has surpassed four million, a 300% growth since 2010. Globally, the site attracts more than two new members every second, and grew to more than 200 million members worldwide in December.
With approximately 5 million professionals in Australia, LinkedIn is now home to over 80% of the country’s professional population. LinkedIn has also expanded its local presence with over 100 staff across three offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
“Apart from using LinkedIn to build their professional identity, we are seeing a strong uptake from our Australian members leveraging LinkedIn as a professional content platform to discover and share insights.” said Clifford Rosenberg, Managing Director for LinkedIn Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. “The profile redesign, Influencer program and rapid product innovation have positioned LinkedIn as a real-time knowledge engine to find and share professional news and content that drives value and engagement for our members.”
As its membership in Australia reached a critical mass in terms of penetration, LinkedIn continues to see strong demand and response for its suite of services, including talent, marketing and subscription solutions. The company now has a wide cross-section of clients using the LinkedIn platform to improve their competitive advantage as they hire, market and sell. These clients include Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, AustralianSuper, Tourism Australia and Microsoft.
“Companies have taken notice of the increasingly massive data set LinkedIn provides and are using it to transform the way they hire talent, market their brand and sell more effectively by utilising the power of their networks,” Rosenberg added.
Leading C-suite professionals, senior executives and entrepreneurs are leveraging LinkedIn to boost their professional brand. Andy Lark, Chief Marketing and Online Officer at Commonwealth Bank; Kate Vale, Managing Director of Spotify for Australia and New Zealand; entrepreneur Sharon Melamed, Managing Director of Matchboard.com.au; Karl Wooltorton at Continuum Recruitment; Davinia Noble, Account Director at Adobe and Matt Barrie, CEO freelancer.com are part of Australia’s Power Profile list, those with the top viewed LinkedIn profiles in their industry, who share their LinkedIn stories at www.linkedinpowerprofiles.com/australia.
