LinkedIn reaches 10 million members in the UK

LONDON — September 17, 2012 — LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network with over 175 million members worldwide, has today surpassed its 10 millionth member in the UK – this means four out of five British professionals are now part of the business network.

Since its launch almost a decade ago, LinkedIn has established itself as the place where UK professionals connect, exchange knowledge and ideas and do business. The top five member hotspots are London, Birmingham, Reading, Edinburgh and Manchester; with everyone from vets (18,750) to farmers (2,545), and teachers (50,496) to company directors (406,850) present, LinkedIn enables people to showcase their skills and manage their personal brand online.

“Reaching 10 million members in the UK shows that skilled workers believe our community is vital to their careers,” said Ariel Eckstein, LinkedIn European Managing Director. “Every day, our members are adding information to their profiles, sharing important views and insights, connecting to one another, building their networks and getting access to a world of potential contacts, business partners, investors, employers and employees.”

According to Katie Ledger, co-author of And what do you do? 10 steps to creating a portfolio career, “When it comes to raising your professional profile and ensuring that you get noticed by the key players in your sector – if you’re on LinkedIn, you’re much more likely to be on the radar.”

Featuring over 8,000 active groups in the UK, LinkedIn has accelerated the way people do business. In fact, it has grown to become an invaluable place that busy professionals use to crowd source advice and recommendations and create business and career opportunities.

Based on the strength of its network and its ability to target, LinkedIn has established diverse business lines. Hiring Solutions enable employers to find and recruit the best talent from both active and passive candidates. LinkedIn represents a valuable demographic for marketers with affluent and influential members.
