LinkedIn Spain opens its doors
Madrid, Spain – March 27, 2012 — LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network with more than 150 million members worldwide, today announced the opening of its first office in Spain where a new team will support a growing customer base.
LinkedIn CEO, Jeff Weiner, commented, “With nearly three million professionals in the country we’re reaching nearly half[1] of the professional population of the country – which is not surprising, as Spain is one of our fastest growing countries in Europe. I couldn’t be more excited to announce the opening of our office in Spain today.”
To mark the launch LinkedIn released new research, showing an overwhelming majority of Spanish professionals (95%) believe entrepreneurship is critical to the revival of the Spanish economy. The research also showed that over half were open to new entrepreneurial endeavours and remained highly motivated by the opportunity to further their careers.
The survey also revealed that almost half (44%) of Spanish professionals believe social media is ‘important’ or ‘very important’ to furthering their careers. 38% of Spanish internet users, in fact, already make daily use of online networking for professional purposes.
Ariel Eckstein, Managing Director, LinkedIn EMEA, said, “LinkedIn can help aspiring professionals, entrepreneurs and businesses to find and be found by useful contacts, to share advice and knowledge and to build their careers and do business.
“Our Spanish members are leveraging LinkedIn to connect locally as well as with the rest of the world. Leading Spanish companies such as BBVA, Telefonica, Santander and Indra are seeing growth beyond Spain and their traditional Western European markets and are very global in their outlook.
“The increasing importance Spanish professionals are placing on social media such as LinkedIn to manage and grow their careers is indicative of these growing aspirations and is why the time is right for LinkedIn to establish a bigger presence in Spain.”
In addition to supporting local members, LinkedIn’s new Madrid office will act as a base from which to drive growth across the company’s portfolio of Hiring Solutions and Marketing Solutions (the latter, through its partnership with Antevenio) for companies looking to recruit the best talent and connect and build relationships with the network’s membership of educated, affluent and influential professionals.
Today´s launch showcased how local companies such as Michael Page, BBVA, Everis, Indra, Beagle, Asociación de Jóvenes Empresarios, Grupo +45 (all present at the opening) have already benefited from LinkedIn´s services.
This latest expansion follows the opening of LinkedIn’s Milan office in November, Munich office in September, and brings the number of LinkedIn offices in Europe to eight, including Paris, Stockholm, London, Munich, Milan, Dublin, Amsterdam and now Madrid.
