LinkedIn Names Google’s Lloyd Taylor as Vice President of Technical Operations
Mountain View, CA — September 10, 2007 — LinkedIn Corporation, the world’s largest online professional network, today announced the appointment of former Google Director of Global Operations Lloyd Taylor as Vice President of Technical Operations. During his three year term at Google, Taylor was responsible for scaling the Google.com infrastructure including data centers and server operations to support Google’s post-IPO growth. His efforts helped the company scale its infrastructure by more than 500% while growing staff responsible for machine maintenance by only 80 percent.
Previously, Lloyd was Vice President, Technology & Operations at Keynote Systems, where he grew the measurement infrastructure from 60 measurement agents in 10 domestic locations to well over 3,000 agents worldwide. Before Keynote, Lloyd was the founding technical executive for Digex Web Hosting. His datacenter designs at Digex are still featured as the premier hosting locations of Digex’s current owner, Verizon.
Lloyd started his career at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, where he participated in the creation of ARPANet, designed flight computer systems for several Space Shuttle missions, worked on cryptographic systems for U.S. Department of Defense applications, and implemented one of the first Internet-based distance learning systems.
“Lloyd is one of the world’s leading experts on technical infrastructure scalability,” said Dan Nye, CEO, LinkedIn. “His experience in building and growing the technical infrastructure for Google, as well as his work at Keynote, where he led design and development of an infrastructure spanning 50 cities on five continents, were clearly the perfect fit for Linkedin as we continue to rapidly grow our network around the world.”
“I look forward to joining the talented management team at LinkedIn at this key point in time for the company,” said Lloyd Taylor, Vice President of Technical Operations, LinkedIn. “With the exponential growth in membership and network usage over the next few years, the challenge to build a strong and scalable infrastructure for LinkedIn is both critical to the company’s success and a very exciting opportunity for me personally.”
