During elections, people come to LinkedIn for many of the same reasons they do every other day: build their careers, grow their businesses and connect with other professionals. And my team’s job is to help keep LinkedIn a trusted and professional place to do that.
Here are a few of the ways we do it:
We have clear policies. You often hear online platforms referred to as a digital town square. We like to think of ourselves more like the digital conference room and our Professional Community Policies are designed to support that. They set expectations for how people engage on LinkedIn and help us protect the parts of LinkedIn that matter to our members: authentic people, professional conversations and trusted opportunities.
We prioritize your preferences. Not everyone wants or needs the same community to reach their goals. That’s why we’ve built tools that allow members to decide what they see in their feed, unfollow topics or conversations they’re no longer interested in, and even choose if they’d like to see less political content on LinkedIn. We believe you should be the one in charge of your experience and if you ever come across content or accounts that you think go against our policies, we encourage you to report them to help us identify issues, investigate patterns and continue improving the experience for everyone.
We don’t allow political advertising. We don’t allow ads that are intended to influence an election outcome or advocate for a specific political party or candidate.
We invest in authenticity. One of the things I hear often is that when our members log onto LinkedIn, they want to interact with real people, real companies, and real opportunities. That’s why we have continued to invest in things like verification, account protections like 2FA and even recently introduced a new way for members to let us know if something seems like AI Slop. All of this together helps our members better understand who and what they’re interacting with on our platform.
Ultimately, your experience on LinkedIn is yours to shape. I encourage you to lean into the conversations that add value to your professional journey, whether that’s learning from a different perspective or sharing your own insights. Let’s keep our community focused on the professional connections that help us all succeed, together.
